my recent transition to full time entrepreneur wasn’t my first, second or third go at what I know to be the platform for my purpose. i previously attempted taking the leap of faith as an entrepreneur and for multiple reasons it just did not work for me. back to corporate America I went. there is plenty of value to be found in every entrepreneur’s first few attempts at starting and running a successful business. i realize now the road to success as an entrepreneur begins with the prework. Dr. Venus Reese, founder of the Black Women Millionaires Movement, says...
"courage is not a reflection of willpower but a result of preparation."
can you say ah-ha moment?
i can’t tell you how true her statement is. it undoubtedly takes courage to pursue a life that you love as an entrepreneur because the entrepreneur journey is not an easy feat. this is why i created the comprehensive self paced coaching program exit strategy for eventual entrepreneurs. Dr. Reese is referring to the prework when she mentions preparation. the secret sauce to entrepreneurial success is the prework because it is the prework, not willpower, which provides you with the confidence to weather most any issue the entrepreneur journey will provoke. doing your prework summons the courage to begin the entrepreneur journey. the prework is the basis for what i’ve coined the PreactiveTM philosophy. the PreactiveTM philosophy requires you to prepare to be proactive. by definition proactive means “creating or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after it has happened”. prepare means “to make ready beforehand for some purpose, [or] use.”
what had happened was
years ago when i took my previous leaps of faith to become the entrepreneur I now know I am meant to be i didn’t perform nearly enough prework. i did not ask enough questions of myself and others. i only did what i knew which wasn’t much as i soon found out, i did not know enough to make the transition stick. i pursued what peaked my curiosity instead of what I now understand to be my I.D. it was destined for failure from the start but guess what. f.a.i.l.ing is a good thing. scratch that. f.a.i.l.ing is amazing and should be a part of your daily entrepreneurial habits. i expand more on the concept of being a f.a.i.l.u.r.e daily and encouraging you to f.e.a.r. everything.
being preactive is a step above being proactive
think about both the long-tail of seemingly insignificant issues and difficult issues in advance along with everything in between. use the same degree of strategic thinking for any scenario. to be preactive means you’ll consider the best case scenario, the worst case scenario and everything in between to develop a potential plan B, plan C, plan D, plan E or possibly all the way to plan Z if that's what it takes to achieve your ultimate goal. it isn’t necessary that you have all of the answers to move forward right away. that’s not realistic however once you acknowledge that many alternatives may exist for an issue, discerning your options has to be practiced intentionally.
if it is not one thing it’s the other
the objective of my PreactiveTM philosophy is to prepare your mindset to take action when critical decisions have to be made where persistence and perseverance is required. life is going to continue to happen around you. you will still have trials and tribulations to work through and challenging obstacles to overcome. becoming a full-time entrepreneur doesn’t change that. remember YOU have chosen to create your fulfilled life by design and no longer live a life by default. while the world isn’t against you, no one else is remotely interested in leading your life for you to ensure you experience your best life. it is up to you to make it happen and stay the course no matter what. this means having the right connections, the right intentions, the right information, the right solution and above all, the right mindset.
"plan all the way to the end"
