as your career life progresses, what you've always wanted to do will continue to pull at you. what you find most joy in doing will continue to pester you until you acknowledge it and do something about it. we were never meant to ignore our deepest desires and that which we are inherently talented at. we were never meant to set aside the skills we've intentionally developed at a high level over the years for the sake of a job we don't love. the number of disengaged employees doesn't have to be as high as it is. the number of individuals unhappy with their job, settling for a paycheck shouldn't be a thing or an expected permanent sacrifice. if only you had the courage to choose you.
for the launch of the StartUP & Thrive podcast I had the opportunity to chop it up with a fellow startup instigator, Stefanie Jewett, founder of the Activvely app and Startup Sisters USA. during our candid and heartfelt discussion, Stefanie and I talked about her moment of truth having to make the choice of her life and move away from a career path that no longer suited her.
i met Stefanie for the first time when I attended her initial Startup Sisters event in Atlanta. she has proven herself to be genuine, willing to use her platform to give other women a voice and an opportunity. Stefanie truly exemplifies the pay it forward philosophy. other topics we laughed and got real about include:
~ the if you build it they will come myth;
~ the importance of finding a tribe to connect with;
~ the necessity to just start doing;
~ women in tech, it’s lack of diversity and the men who support them;
~ listening to your positive inner self when it’s time for you to start;
~ her belief that the right people will be there to catch you when you step into your calling;
~ four people who have either mentored her, supported her or inspired her along her entrepreneur journey that you and I should make it a point to connect with.
...and so much more. take a listen.
